Junior officer, terrorist killed in J&K encounter

A junior commissioned officer and a terrorist were killed and two other troopers wounded in an encounter in South Kashmir on Friday.

Police said troopers attached to the 50 Rashtriya Rifles regiment surrounded a forest hideout of the terrorists near Tral in Pulwama district early Friday morning and challenged them.

In an attempt to escape, the terrorists opened fire on troopers.

In the subsequent encounter, a JCO and a terrorist were killed till reports last came in, a senior police officer said.

Two other troopers suffered injuries, he said, adding that the operation was still in progress.
