The CPI-M's Tamil Nadu unit on Tuesday warned the United Progressive Alliance government against succumbing to the pressure of the "communal forces" and giving up the Sethusamudram project.

"It was shocking to note that the Centre, instead of evincing more interest in speedy implementation of the project, had sought three months time from the Supreme Court to reconsider the issue," state party secretary N Varadarajan said.

He said the BJP and other "communal forces" had made a big issue of the affidavit submitted by the Centre.
