Terming the Left Front's opposition to the India-United States nuclear deal as 'inappropriate,' Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath on Saturday said that the stand was a 'reflection of their ideology'.

Strongly supporting the civil nuclear cooperation agreement, he said it will help the country raise its power production by 20,000 MW in the next ten years.

"The protest by the Left is a reflection of their ideology. It is inappropriate," Nath said in Chhindwara, his Lok Sabha constituency, on Saturday.

"The basic aim of the deal is to meet the growing energy needs of the country and enable us to produce 20,000 MW power in the next 10 years," said the minister.

The country's energy sources were depleting and it has to depend on nuclear energy to meet the growing demand, Nath said. He added that India requires the technological know-how of the US to tap atomic energy.

Training guns on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh, the senior Congress leader accused it of derailing the development process initiated by his party in the state. He claimed that power crisis in the state has thwarted efforts to attract new investments.
