Hours have passed by, but there is no trace of three-and-a-half year-old Rohit Reddy, who is suspected to have been kidnapped by unidentified persons. Neither are there any ransom phone calls--a fact that perplexes the police.
Reddy, the son of two top software professionals, was allegedly abducted on Tuesday while he was playing at a ground near his apartment at Kondapur in Hyderabad.
"We are a worried lot. We have received no information from the police so far. No phone calls either from the abductors about the ransom. It is our bad luck," the boy's grandfather said.
Rohit's father, Ravinder Reddy, is an assistant project manager with Cognizant, while his mother, Lalasa Reddy, is a project leader with Satyam Computers. The couple were at work while the incident happened.
Though the family had not received any ransom calls, the police said it was a case of extortion. The parents told the police that they did not have any rivalry with anyone, but the police are not ruling out any "personal animosity angle' behind the crime.
The boy was kidnapped by unidentified persons clad in jeans and jackets around 4.30 pm while he was playing with five other children at their school ground near his house at Kondapur near Madhapur in Cyberabad police limits.
A culprit scaled the ground wall and befriended the children before placing Rohit on the parapet wall. From there, he was picked up two of his accomplices and whisked away in a black Toyota Qualis to Miyapur area. Shocked, Rohit's brother Praneeth Reddy, did not raise an alarm, but later went back to their apartments and narrated the event.
