At least two people were killed and 23 others injured in four near-simultaneous bomb blasts that rocked the Nepalese capital today as the country prepared for its crucial Constituent Assembly polls.

A woman was killed in an explosion in Sundhara area near the army headquarters and another girl in a passenger bus close to the United World Trade Centre in Tripureshwor, police said. At least 10 people were injured in the two blasts.

Another bomb ripped through a mini-bus in a crowded market place at Balaju Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Kathmandu injuring 13 people, eye-witnesses said.

A blast also occurred near Tribhuvan University at Kirtipur in the southern Kathmandu but no casualty was reported.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blasts that sparked panic in Kathmandu with people rushing to safety after hearing the explosions.

No arrests have been made so far, police said.

The injured were admitted to the Bir Hospital and Siddhartha Hospital where the condition of five people was stated to be serious.

Security has been beefed up in Kathmandu following the blasts which occurred at a time when the home ministry is holding consultation with various security agencies to prepare for the crucial Constituent Assembly polls slated for November.
