A trial court in Delhi on Thursday remanded former Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Akhand Pratap Singh, arrested in connection with a corruption case, to 14-day judicial custody.

The Delhi High Court had stayed Singh's bail on October 23.

"It is not in dispute that the orders of this court granting bail to the accused have since been stayed under the orders of the high court and the matter is under arguments," Additional Sessions Judge I K Kochhar said while sending Singh to the Tihar jail till November seven.

The trial court had ordered the release of the former top bureaucrat on bail on October 18 against which the CBI had moved the higher court.

Seeking cancellation of the bail order, the CBI had argued that their case should be heard by the high court, as the trial court's judgment had not been supplied to them.

After hearing the CBI's contentions, the high court had on October 22 stayed Singh's bail and has now fixed October 29 as the next date of hearing.

The agency had, on October 23, also informed the high court that Singh amassed more than Rs five crore worth of assets, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The investigation revealed that he owned around 92 immovable properties and more than 100 bank accounts, it had claimed.

Singh, once voted the most corrupt officer by the UP IAS Association, was arrested on September 25 in connection with a corruption case lodged against him in 2005.
