Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Thursday favoured people's right to recall their representatives if they fail to deliver.

"Jayaprakash Narayan and Ram Manohar Lohia had strongly supported people's right to recall their representatives who did not deliver. This right can prove to be an effective tool in strengthening democracy," he said addressing a function to celebrate the 105th birth anniversary of Narayan, who was popularly known as JP, at RJD's state office.

Lalu, himself a leading light of the students' movement led by JP against Indira Gandhi government, said the socialist leader crusaded all his life for establishing an egalitarian society free of corruption and poverty.

The RJD president also stressed that the root causes of problems like Naxalism and terrorism were poverty and unemployment.

"We cannot overcome these problems through bullets. These can be tackled through sustained efforts for poverty eradication, promotion of education and social security," he said.

He lauded UPA government for launching the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, pension and insurance schemes which were benefitting the common man.

At the same time, he slammed Nitish Kumar-led state government for "failing on all fronts" called for "Jail Bharo" agitations on the lines of those launched by JP to "galvanise the people into action" against the NDA dispensation.
