UK confirms Khafeel's identity

The body of the suspect in the botched UK terror plot, who died of burn injuries on August 2 at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in Scotland, has been identified as Khafeel Ahmed, a spokesperson for the Crown Office, UK said on Wednesday.

The body had been handed over to the next of kin and cremated in accordance with their wishes, the spokesperson said PTI.

Khafeel, 27, who hailed from Bangalore, suffered 90 per cent burns when he drove a burning jeep into the airport.

A release from the crown office and Procurator Fiscal Service said: "On June 30, 2007, a man was seriously injured during the course of attack on Glasgow airport. He subsequently died on August 2 at the Glasgow Royal infirmary from the injuries he sustained and death was reported to the procurator fiscal at Paisley who instructed a post mortem.

"The deceased has now been identified Khafeel Ahmed. The body has been released to the next of kin and has been buried in accordance with their wishes."
