Security was beefed up in the capital on Thursday night following a blast at the sufi shrine in Ajmer.

"We are cautious, but not panicked. We have alerted our personnel," a senior official said adding police are taking all steps to tighten security in the capital.

Delhi police commissioner Y S Dadwal summoned senior officials for a meeting and took stock of the situation in the wake of the blast and forthcoming festival season.

With major Hindu and Muslim festivals round the corner starting with Eid-ul-Fitr, Dadwal asked the personnel to be more alert and requested public to inform police about any suspicious activity or people.

"The Commissioner reviewed the preparations. He has directed the officials to intensify patrolling and checking," the official said. Checking at inter-state bus stands, metro and railway stations were also intensified, he said.
