Even as Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy fixed October 18 for a special legislative assembly session, Bharatiya Janata Party leader B S Yediyurappa said his party was ready to face the elections if the Janata Dal-Secular did not hand over power to them.

Yediyurappa said that they will await the JD-S's decision, which is expected to come on Friday evening. He said that his party was ready to run the government and if power was not handed over then they were ready to seek the peoples' mandate.

Reacting to the charges made by the JD-S against the BJP in Thursday's convention, Yediyurappa said that he too had a long list of charges against the JD-S but would not like to discuss it now.

Meanwhile, the state Cabinet met at Bangalore on Friday and decided that it would convene a special session of the legislative assembly on October 18.The Cabinet which was attended by only the JD-S ministers did not specify in public about the necessity to hold a special session of the assembly. Kumaraswamy when questioned said that it was long overdue.

Kumaraswamy will be flying to New Delhi to attend the political affairs committee meeting of the JD-S. He is expected to address the committee regarding the decision by the JD-S. The meeting which will be held at 3 pm on Friday is crucial for Karnataka politics. The JD-S is expected to take a decision with regard to the transfer of power.

Meanwhile, H D Deve Gowda, JD-S supremo said that he will be meeting BJP president, Rajnath Singh on Saturday to discuss the political scenario. He however ruled out any pact with the Congress and also said that there were no backdoors talks which were on. Gowda said that the situation should become clear in the next 24 hours.
