With the BJP refusing to compromise on the transfer of power in Karnataka, it seems that the Janata Dal (S) is now trying to enter into a pact with the Congress and form a government.

Sources said that a senior Congress leader spoke to JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda regarding the issue.

The leader is said to have told Gowda that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi would give the green signal for the JD(S)-Congress coalition once she returns to India from the United States.

The Congress, however, maintains that it will support the JD(S) from outside and has no intention of being actively involved in the government. The Congress is holding a meeting in Bangalore to discuss the finer aspects.

Sources said that the leader instructed the Congress leaders in Karnataka to ensure that the BJP stayed out of power. Gowda during his meeting with Sinha two days ago said that the JD(S) would not ally with the Congress if the BJP did not intend changing the existing set-up.

There seems to be a change in stance by the Congress in Karnataka. Last Friday, former chief minister of Karnataka N Dharam Singh had said there was no question of allying with the JD(S).
