Union Minister Dinsha Patel on Wednesday filed his nomination as a Congress candidate to take on Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Maninagar constituency and described the ensuing Gujarat assembly elections as a dharam yudh.

"It is a fight between truth and falsehood, a fight between 'Hitlershahi' (dictatorship) and democracy," Patel said while talking to mediapersons after filing his nominations in Ahmedabad on Wednesday afternoon.

"I appeal to the people of Maninagar and of entire Gujarat to walk on the path of truth and vote the Congress to victory in the state," Patel, the Union minister of state for Petroleum and Natural Gas, said.

When asked if he was the Congress party's choice for the chief ministerial candidate as he was fighting against Modi, Patel said, "I think Congress will win 115 to 120 seats this elections. If that happens then the Congress high command will decide about the chief minister."

"I am just a Congress worker not like the other person (Modi) who considers himself above all others," Patel said.

Patel said he was contesting the elections as he was asked to by the Congress high command.

"In the last five years, democracy has been stifled in the state and I appeal to people of Gujarat to vote for Congress to ensure that peace prevails in the state," Patel remarked.

Dressed in a white kurta, Patel was accompanied by a group of Congress workers.
