Joining the raging controversy over Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Tuesday sought political asylum for her.

"She should be given political asylum," RSS chief K S Sudarshan said on the sidelines of the release of the book,  Saffron Surge, written by Tarun Vijay.

"People deserted by others are welcome to my place," he said when asked the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's stand on the issue. The Sangh leader refused to comment on the CPI-M's action on the matter.

Vishwa Hindu Parisad's international president Ashok Singhal said the freedom of the writer should be respected.
"We are in support of freedom of expression of people. The Bangladesh government should realise and act on it," he said.

Asked whether the government should extend her visa, which expires in February next year, he said, "It is up to the government to take a decision."

The reactions of the Sangh Parivar comes days after the BJP's demand that the Bangladeshi writer be treated as a political refugee and slammed the Centre for remaining silent on the issue.
