Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced that the Central Bureau of Investigation will investigate the involvement of one of his legislators in the rape and murder of a woman.

The announcement comes after an outcry over the rape of a woman identified as Reshma and the subsequent attack on journalists by the MLA who is allegedly involved, Anant Singh of the Janata Dal-Secular.

Initially, Nitish Kumar was unavailable for over six hours. The journalists waiting for hours near official residence of Nitish Kumar then were invited and he announced that the state government will recommend a CBI probe into the Reshma case.

NDTV reporter Prakash Singh went to Anant Singh's house to get his version for a story on the recovery of a sack containing a woman's body, suspected to be of Reshma, in the Patel Nagar area of Patna.

The MLA and his henchmen had beaten up the reporter and the cameraman. His car keys were snatched and the camera smashed.

NDTV cameraman Habib Ali, who managed to escape, has been taken to the Patna Medical College Hospital after he complained of chest pain. Another news agency cameraperson was also beaten up.
