After failing to trace Director General of Police (fire service) B B Mohanti on Monday, the Rajasthan police team, which is in Cuttack, Orissa, to arrest him, could make little headway on Tuesday as Mohanti was on medical leave since May 27.

"We searched for Mohanti at a hospital in the Buxi Bazar area and also went to DGP's office for the second time on Tuesday expecting that he would be present there. But there was no trace of him," said Rajasthan police team leader Mukund Bihari.

He said the Rajasthan police will continue its search for the DGP, who is accused of helping his rape convict son Bitihotra jump parole last December. Official sources said the team, accompanied by personnel of Orissa police, verified the records of the hospital at Buxi Bazar, which

had referred Mohanti to SCB Medical College Hospital for further treatment as he was suffering from blood dysentery.

"We have got photo copies of Mohanti's report, which said that he was suffering from blood dysentery," said Virendra Jakhar, station house officer of Lalkothi police station in Jaipur. He is also the investigation officer in the Bitihotra escape incident.

Meanwhile, authorities of SCB medical college hospital, in a written reply to the Rajasthan police team on Tuesday, made it clear that Mohanti had never come to the hospital for treatment since May 27.

The police team had on Monday searched for Mohanti at the hospital and urged the hospital superintendent Prof N K Balabantaray to confirm whether the DGP was under treatment in any ward of the hospital.
