Tamil Nadu will implement reservation for Muslims and Christians in education and employment in the state if similar benefit was available for them in neighbouring Kerala and Karnataka.

"If it is true, we will implement in Tamil Nadu also," Chief Minister M Karunanidhi told reporters at the Delhi airport when asked whether Tamil Nadu would follow the example of Kerala and Karnataka in extending quota benefits.

At the Seventh International Islamic Literary Convention in Chennai on Sunday, the chief minister had promised quota within quota, whereby Muslims would be entitled to reservation within the existing 69 percent quota.

The speakers at the Convention, who included Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Rehman Khan, wanted reservation for Muslims on the lines of that available in Kerala and Karnataka.

Kerala and Karnataka have made four per cent reservation within the 50 percent reservation in education and employment.
