Gujarat Crime Investigation Department on Friday moved a fresh plea before a court in Ahmedabad asking it to issue arrest warrants against five policemen in connection with killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter.
The fresh application containing names of five policemen, including three from Rajasthan and two from Gujarat, was moved by public prosecutor N H Saini before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate K J Upadhaya.
The court is expected to take up the matter on May 28.
The CID (crime) has on May 17 moved an application containing the names of seven policemen against whom it had sought arrest warrants.
Asked by media persons, Saini declined to name the five policemen or the role played by them. He also did not say why the CID had trimmed the list of policemen to be arrested.
The five policemen mentioned in the fresh plea are suspected to have played a role in the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausar Bi.
The CID have already arrested three IPS officials, including Vanzara, and as many ATS policemen, in the case.
