A Mumbai court on Thursday granted bail to Haseena Parkar, sister of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in a case of extortion after ruling that there was insufficient evidence against her.
While granting Haseena bail on payment of a personal bond of Rs 25,000, the court observed that prima facie a case of extortion or forgery could not be made out against her.
The court also directed her to cooperate with the investigators in the case and report regularly to the Anti-Extortion Cell of the police.
She was also told not to tamper with evidence in the case or leave the city without the permission of the concerned investigating officer.
The court observed that the money retained by the Shukla brothers, also accused in the case, after the realty deal with the complainant fell through had been kept in their bank account and there was no evidence that the money had reached Haseena.
The FIR in the case also did not mention that Haseena had extorted money from real estate agent
Avlani, who is the complainant in the case, the court said. Police had obtained a non-bailable warrant against Haseena on May 10 but were unable to find her until she surfaced before a sessions court on Tuesday seeking anticipatory bail.
