Observing that the United Progressive Alliance has been working on the right direction ever since its inception, alliance chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday called upon allies to make sincere efforts to maintain and strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation displayed by them so far despite their divergent viewpoints.

"The UPA has been able to knit together the differing views and opinions of its allies displaying proper coordination and cohesion and set a tradition of sorts of mutual cooperation," she said, addressing the function at the Prime Minister's House to mark the completion of three years of the Congress-led alliance government at the Centre. The function was attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA allies.

Speaking in Hindi, Sonia said the government had crossed yet another milestone having completed three years in power. Whatever commitments the prime minister had made to the nation, was there in the form of the report card presented to the people today, she noted.

"Let us reiterate our commitment to the national common minimum programme, which has bound us UPA allies together," the Congress president said.

She said the national common minimum programme had created hopes for social justice among the lakhs of poor in the country, who were eager to get the same at the earliest possible
