Karnataka on Monday directed its police to mount search operations to ascertain whether the terrorists who triggered the bomb explosions in the Mecca Masjid at Hyderabad have sneaked into the state.

"The state DGP K R Srinivasan has been asked to direct the police to undertake searches for suspected terrorists in parts of the state, particularly in Bidar," State Home Minister M P Prakash told reporters in Bangalore.

Prakash, who held about two-hour meeting with the DGP at which he reviewed the law and order situation, said there was no specific intelligence input either from the Centre or the state about the presence of terrorists in the state who were wanted in connection with the Hyderabad explosion that claimed 11 lives.

A special police team was sent to Hyderabad on Monday to study the devices used in the May 18 blast so as to enable the state to get knowledge about the modus operandi of the terrorists, he said.

Prakash said a police team from Hyderabad had visited Bidar a day after the explosion occurred on an information that Billal, one of the prime suspects, had visited the district about 18 months ago. However, he said, the Centre has cautioned the state on the terrorist outfits trying to spread their network in Karnataka and the police have been keeping a constant vigil.

Security has been strengthened in all sensitive areas, he said.
