The office of the outgoing Uttar Pradesh Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Azam Khan in the Assembly secretariat was sealed on Friday, following reports that his staff had destroyed some documents.

The staff members allegedly tore papers and dumped them in a bin shortly after the ruling Samajwadi Party's drubbing in the Assembly elections.

Senior officials accompanied by the state police chief G L Sharma inspected the site and ordered a thorough inquiry into the matter, sources told PTI.

Police received a complaint from the Secretariat on Friday afternoon that the employees at Khan's office were tearing some papers, the sources said.

The matter was also brought to the notice of Chief Secretary Shambhu Nath who issued orders for sealing of the office, sources said.

Only an investigation will ascertain as to what kind of documents were being destroyed and the motive behind it, the sources added.
