Gujarat police officer in Hyderabad

May 11, 2007 17:04 IST
Senior Gujarat police officer Geeta Johri and her team have arrived in Hyderabad to investigate the city's links to the Gujarat fake encounter killings.

Johri's initial report is credited with nailing three senior Indian Police Service officers, allegedly responsible for the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, an alleged extortionist, who was dubbed a terrorist and done away with.

Sohrabuddin, his wife Kausar Bi and another person Tulsiram Prajapati had boarded a bus from Hyderabad in November 2005. They were forcibly made to disembark by a Gujarat police team once the vehicle crossed the Andhra Pradesh border.

That police team appeared to have followed the bus from Hyderabad and was reportedly assisted by the Andhra Pradesh police, which has denied its involvement.

Johri had been removed from the probe team and was reinstated when the Supreme Court questioned her removal.

In Hyderabad, she is slated to visit the Central Reserve Police Force mess at Chandrayangutta on the outskirts of the city, after reports that a Gujarat cadre IPS officer E Radhakrishnan, who was then posted at CRPF, had met Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Pandian during the latter's mission to nab Sheikh.

Johri is also likely to visit the Hyderabad office of Sangeetha Travels, which was consulted by Sheikh and his wife to travel to Sangli in Maharashtra.
