Mediapersons were chased away by angry supporters of arrested senior IPS officer D G Vanzara on Sunday when they went to his native village Illol to report on the digging work to recover remains of Kausar Bi, wife of fake encounter victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

There was tension in the village, 100 km from Ahmedabad, when members of the Vanzara community targetted mediapersons who had landed in Illol to cover the digging work done by Gujarat CID personnel days after the top cop was arrested along with two other senior officers.

There were also reports that the supporters threatened mediapersons and asked them to leave.

The reporters, who had camped in the village in Sabarkanta district, close to the arrested officer's farm where the digging work was going on, had to make a hasty retreat from the spot and moved to a safer place.

Sabarkantha District Superintendent of Police Raju Bhargav was not available for comment on the incident.

Mediapersons were not allowed to go close to the digging site, which is a farm just 200 m from Vanzara's bungalow, and watched the action from  a distance.

It has been reported that Kausar Bi was burnt days after the killing of her husband in November 2005 and her remains were buried in Illol village.

This is the second time that mediapersons have not been able to take any footage from the arrested officer's native village.

Last time too they were physically prevented and even chased away when they tried to film the property of the suspended official.
