Expressing confidence that Indo-US nuclear deal will go through despite some difficult points, Indian Ambassador to the United States Ronen Sen has said that it has the potential of opening up the field for greater international cooperation in nuclear power.

The Indian ambassador commended the recent efforts made by the two countries to break the logjam in the civilian nuclear deal and reach a mutual agreement.

He said the deal will be cleared despite the initial hindrances posed before it.

Sen seemed optimistic about the future expansion of two-way trade between India and the US.

"The fact that it is two-way trade puts the business relations on a firm footing," he said while addressing a reception organized by the alumni of the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad on Friday.

As the Indian corporations go abroad and expand at home, the issue of mergers and acquisitions would assume greater significance and that would require the services of professionals, he said.

Professionals, including doctors, already have country-wide organisations, which look after their own interests as also help in strengthening relations with India, he said.

It is important that they put the collective intellectual capital to beneficial use and optimize it, he added.

Sen said the government would need to invest in basic education especially for girls, basic healthcare and basic infrastructure. Later, it could be government-private partnership or private enterprise altogether.
