LeT module behind attack on Mirwaiz busted

Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday busted a module of terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Tayiba and arrested 13 of its cadres, including a woman, all of whom were wanted for various militancy-related incidents in capital Srinagar.

Briefing media persons, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) S M Sahai disclosed that the LeT outfit had been directed to target moderate leaders in the separatist camp.

"We have arrested 13 persons, including a woman, all of whom are members of the LeT group and had been engaged in various terror activities, including attacks on the residence of the moderate All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and the conglomerate headquarters in Rajbagh locality in January this year," Sahai said.

He said that the LeT outfit had been given the task of attacking leaders of the moderate APHC group.

"Investigations carried out by police have revealed that this module was also responsible for the killing of policemen, police sources, political activists and lobbing of grenades in public places," he said.

Huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered including three AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines, 100 rounds, four pouches, two pistols and 20 hand grenades were recovered from the arrested militants, he added.
