Mulayam declares assets over Rs 2.25 crore

Samajwadi Party chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who is facing a CBI probe into his assets, on Tuesday declared cash and properties worth over Rs 2.25 crore in an affidavit filed with his nomination papers from Bhartana Assembly constituency.

Mulayam Singh's affidavit filed with the returning officer stated that he had Rs 35,51,926.65 in eight bank accounts and that he owned 14.63 acres of agricultural land worth Rs 26,57,165 in his ancestral village of Saifai.

The Supreme Court had on March 1 ordered the CBI to conduct an inquiry into a charge that Mulayam Singh and his family have amassed assets disproportionate to their legal sources of income. The order was issued in response to a PIL filed by Congress leader Vishwanath Chaturvedi.

Mulayam Singh's affidavit also stated that he owned a residential plot in the posh Friends Colony in Etawah and a bungalow at Civil Lines in Etawah worth Rs 33,59,757.

It said he owned furniture and electronic items worth over Rs 6 lakh and a tube well boring valued at over Rs 2 lakh.

The affidavit said Mulayam Singh's wife Sadhna has cash worth over Rs 15 lakh in six bank accounts.

She owns two vehicles, including a Toyota valued at over Rs 17 lakh, and jewellery worth over Rs 77 lakh.

Sadhna also owns two residential plots in the posh Gomti Nagar area in Lucknow valued at over Rs 11 lakh and furniture worth Rs 80,000.

The affidavit also stated that Mulayam Singh's father owned a tube well boring valued at Rs 3 lakh and furniture worth about Rs 5 lakh.
