After witnessing two adjournments over the Nandigram issue on Tuesday, Lok Sabha was adjourned for 30 minutes on the Cauvery issue with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam members trooping into the well as a debate on the issue was taken up.

As the House re-assembled at 1600 hours, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee appealed to members to discuss the contentious water-sharing issue in a dispassionate and responsible manner.

A special discussion on the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal was slated to be raised by Bharatiya Janata Party member Ananth Kumar and C Kuppusami of DMK.

Describing the issue as an "emotive" one, the speaker said it affected lives of a large number of people and the duty of parliamentarians was to ensure that all issues be discussed properly.

After his brief appeal, Chatterjee asked Kumar to start the discussion under Rule 193, which does not entail voting.

As soon as the BJP leader began his speech seeking central intervention to undo the "injustice" done to Karnataka by the tribunal order, DMK members raised slogans and trooped into the well forcing adjournment of the House for half-an-hour.

Earlier in the day, Lok Sabha was adjourned twice for a total of five hours on the Nandigram issue.
