Ahead of the first meeting of the joint anti-terror mechanism, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday asked India to apprise Pakistan of the investigation being made in the February 18 Samjhauta Express blasts in which several Pakistanis were killed.

"As the investigation into the incident progresses, we should also be informed about this," he said at a fuction held at the Governor House in Karachi to distribute compensation cheques to the next of the kin of the victims of the train tragedy.

Aziz said that he will appeal to the Indian government to apprise Pakistan of the results of the investigation and stressed that immediate and stern action be initiated against those responsible for the incident.

"There is no doubt it is an act of terrorism in which innocent people were killed," he said.

The Indian delegation led by K C Singh, additional secretary of Ministry of External Affairs, will arrive in Islamabad on Monday to take part in the maiden meeting of the Indo-Pak joint terror mechanism to be held on March 6-7.

The prime minister said that Pakistan has asked the Indian government to improve security measures for the train in the Indian territory as this incident was the result of a security lapse.

He said that with better security arrangements such incidents can be prevented. Aziz said that he had detailed discussions with the Indian prime minister who has assured that as soon as the inquiry reaches its conclusion, he will share the results with the government of Pakistan.

Aziz said Pakistan has made adequate security arrangements for the Indian trains and buses plying in Pakistani territory.

At least 68 people were killed in the explosions in two coaches of Samjhauta Express near Panipat.
