Assam: 4 killed, 32 injured in blasts

Four persons were killed and 32 others injured when militants belonging to the banned United Liberation Front of Asom detonated three powerful explosions in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam.

According to police sources three persons were killed and 20 others injured when suspected ULFA ultras detonated two blasts within a span of ten minutes at the daily fish and vegetable market in Tinsukia town. The first explosion occurred at 1705 hrs (IST) followed by another within ten minutes.

One person was killed and 12 others hurt in another explosion that occurred in front of Ananta Cinema at Doom Dooma in Tinsukia district at around 1816 hrs (IST).

The twin blasts at Tinsukia market which is located near the Sadar police station, created spontaneous public outcry with traders and general public raising slogan against the police and security forces for failing to protect lives and property of common people.

The police cordoned off the area to control the agitated people while the injured were rushed to the hospital.
