After week-long caste clashes, normalcy returned to Rajasthan on Tuesday with traffic resuming on the Jaipur-Agra highway.

Vehicular traffic was restored on National Highway 11 after members of Gujjar and Meena communities removed the road blockades early this morning, exactly a day after the Gujjars called off their agitation following an agreement with the government.

The Gujjar leaders, including Roopsingh, met the family members of those who were killed in police firing during the clashes.

"Normalcy has returned to the villages. Since Monday night, our members have been assisting the administration in clearing the road blockades. We welcome the positive outcome from the talks with the government though some of our members had to sacrifice their lives in police firing," Roopsingh said.

Pointing out that many of the injured could not be taken to the hospital because of the road blockades, Roopsingh said private doctors were providing medical facilities to the wounded in various villages.

"It will take some time for these people to get back to normalcy. Yet, they are relived the state government has set up a committee to decide the issue of granting Scheduled Tribe status to the Gujjars," he said.
