In a bid to win the support of the Third Front for Presidential candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies have decided to accept the Third Front's candidate for the post of vice-president.

Though Sushma Swaraj, who is running Shekhawat's Presidential campaign, refused to comment, she confirmed that the meeting of the NDA may take place in a couple of days.

Right now, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and former prime minister Deve Gowda are the frontrunners for vice-president.

The strategy behind the NDA's move is to boost the chances of Shekhawat in the Presidential election by getting the Third Front to support him. Meanwhile, the NDA has decided not to take Mulayam Singh Yadav's statement seriously wherein he had said categorically that the Samajwadi party would not vote for Shekhawat.
