Sri Lanka's new Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollegama on Wednesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.
Bogollegama is understood to have updated Dr Singh about the current situation in the island nation.
The status of the peace process and the Sri Lankan government's efforts are believed to have been discussed during the 30-minute meeting.
Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and National Security Adviser M K Narayanan were also present, sources in the Prime Minister's Office said.
The meeting of Bogollegama, who visit to New Delhi is his first visit after taking up the ministry, comes close on the heels of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake's meeting with Dr Singh on Monday.
President Mahinda Rajapakse appointed Bogollegama Foreign Minister in a reshuffle, replacing Mangala Samaraweera earlier this week.
