Terming the recent grenade attack on the residence of the moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq as "criminal", Pakistan on Thursday said those responsible for it cannot be allowed to wreck the peace process.

Without directly referring to any specific group, Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri said Islamabad condemned the attack on Farooq's residence.

"Those responsible for the criminal act cannot be allowed to damage the peace process and the Kashmir cause," a Foreign Office release quoted Kasuri as saying during his interaction with the Hurriyat delegation headed by Farooq.

The delegation comprising Farooq, Bilal Ghani Lone and Abdul Ghani Bhat have been in Islamabad since January 19 meeting President Pervez Musharraf and other leaders and parties to promote "intra-Kashmir dialogue" to find a solution to resolve Kashmir issue through the Indo-Pak peace process.

Kasuri said Musharraf took "keen interest" to seek an early resolution of the Kashmir issue and the president's proposals "on identification of regions, demilitarisation, self-governance and joint mechanism are strategic initiatives to break the stalemate."

He said Jammu and Kashmir remained the "core issue" between Pakistan and India and its solution in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiri people would bring about peace and prosperity and economic stability in the region.
