Nithari serial killings accused Moninder Singh Pandher's son termed Thursday's attack on his father at a Ghaziabad court as an instance of 'human rights abuse'. He has demanded filing of an attempt to murder case against the assailants.

"It's shocking that such a thing can happen in a democratic country. My father is just an accused and has not been held guilty. Today's incident has caused great mental trauma to us and we demand stringent punishment against those who rained blows on my father," Karandeep Singh told reporters.

He asked the Uttar Pradesh government, the central government and the UP director general of police to file an FIR against 'the lawyers who assaulted my father' and the people caught on camera, as it was a 'clear instance of human rights abuse'.

Karandeep said the case should be filed under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

He also said the UP government should ensure proper security to his father.

Moninder Pandher and another accused in the case, Surendra Koli, faced public fury when they were severely beaten up by an angry crowd of lawyers and public as they were being brought out of the court of a special CBI judge in Ghaziabad, where they were produced for renewal of their remand.

Karandeep also took a dig at the media, accusing it of projecting his father as 'a big criminal'.

"The concerned agencies are already probing the case. The media should desist from jumping to conclusions. My father has not been pronounced as guilty. He should be given a fair trial," he said.
