Peeved over BSP chief Mayawati's offensive over the madrassa rape incident in Allahabad, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday accused her of "politicising" the issue and said it would ensure an impartial inquiry and justice to the victims.

State's minister for health and family welfare Ahmed Hasan, who met the victims earlier in the day, told a press conference that Sunday's mob violence was "politically engineered" and not a public outburst.

Amid claims that the victims were not willing to accept assistance of Rs 2 lakh each announced by the state government, the minister visited the madrassa where he met the two girls, but media was not allowed inside.

He dismissed Mayawati's demand for a CBI inquiry and remarked, "The CBI has so far only given clean chits to people, be it Mayawati in the Taj corridor case or those accused in the Bofors scam."

Hasan also questioned Mayawati's "new found love for Muslims" and alleged that she was a bigger enemy of the minority community than even the BJP, with whom she has shared power in the state a number of times.

He also claimed that during his visit he has come across many things related to the madarsa case, but refused to divulge details, saying he would submit a report to chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
