Depressed over the execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussain, a 22-year-old Pakistani madrassa student hanged himself, police said in Islamabad.

Mohammad Usman Haider had become extremely depressed after watching the largely-circulated videotape of Saddam's execution on television, DSP Industrial Area Jameel Hashmi said.

Haider, who had studied the Holy Quran by heart, left his house for Aabpara market on Saturday and hanged himself with a waistband tied to the ceiling of a bathroom on returning home, the Dawn daily quoted Hashmi as saying.

He said Haider had apparently committed suicide after watching Saddam's execution.

On January 1 a nine-year-old boy, who tried to copy hanging scenes from the execution video of Saddam, accidentally hanged himself at his home in central Pakistan.
