Three suspected suicide bombers linked to banned Islamic militant groups were killed on Saturday at Chechawattani near Multan while on a mission to target police officials who were attending a funeral.

A police official in Multan, Mirza Muhammad Ali, said that three men going on bicycles were killed when an explosive being carried by one of them exploded.

Two were killed on the spot while the third one named Adeel, who has been shifted to Chechawattani Headquarter Hospital, died in the hospital, Ali told Geo TV.

Pieces of suicide kit being worn by them was found in the vicinity of the explosion, he said, adding that the three were together.

The three bombers were believed to be heading to target a funeral of a local police official in which a number of other senior officials were expected to attend.

They studied in a local seminary (madrassa) and belonged to a banned Islamic militant group, Ali said.

A mobile phone SIM card of one of the suspected suicide bomber has been found from the spot, the report said.

The Pakistan police probing spate of suicide bomb blasts in recent weeks claimed to have arrested dozen odd bombers who waited in their "sleeping cells" for orders to hit designated targets.
