Sena mouthpiece restrained from slandering Rane

February 12, 2007 21:37 IST

The Bombay high court on Monday restrained Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna from publishing any defamatory write-ups on state Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, pending a defamation case filed by him against the newspaper.

The case has been adjourned till March 20 to enable Saamna to file an affidavit in reply.

Rane has filed a suit of defamation against the newspaper claiming damages of Rs 25 crores.

At the last hearing, the paper had undertaken not to print anything derogatory against Rane.

But on Monday, Rane's lawyers pointed to a fresh write-up in the paper in the wake of Sena's victory in Mumbai civic elections and alleged it was derogatory.

Rane quit Shiv Sena and joined Congress in 2005.
