An Indian maid in Saudi Arabia, who was presumed dead in her village, has been reunited with her family after 10 years, although she has become mentally unstable.
Hussain Bee, who could not remember her own name, her sponsor, or her husband, was sent home after Indian Embassy officials in Riyadh tracked down her village in Andhra Pradesh.
She was handed over to the Embassy in November last year by the Riyadh police after the Housemaid Welfare Centre refused to accept her on the grounds that she was mentally unsound.
"In what turned out to be smart detective work by an official at the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, the now mentally unstable housemaid was reunited with her family after a marathon hunt involving thousands of kilometres of travel by air and land to locate her home (in Pathepeta district)," the Arab News said.
I P Lakra, second secretary at the Indian Embassy, said the housemaid was suffering from Amnesia. Efforts are on to trace her Saudi sponsor to recover her rightful dues.
