National Security Advisor M K Narayanan met leader of Opposition Lal Kishenchand Advani on Friday and the two discussed the fallout of the recent developments in Pakistan and its impact on the neighbouring countries.

Advani, who spoke to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh late on Thursday night after the assassination of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto, was pleased that Dr Singh had accepted his suggestion to hold an all party meet on Friday evening to discuss the security issues facing India.

"I met the NSA today and we discussed some issues," Advani told newspersons but refused to divulge any more details.

Admitting that the assassination of Bhutto is likely to have repercussions on neighbouring countries, Advani said, "We have been stressing on strengthening our internal security all along."  He added that hopefully, the government will now wake up to the reality of the situation.

Advani later signed a condolence book, kept at the Pakistani High Commission, to pay his tribute to the popular leader.

He complimented Prem Kumar Dhumal, BJP's chief ministerial candidate in Himachal Pradesh, and former union minister Shanta Kumar for leading the party to a spectacular win. Advani will attend Dhumal's swearing in ceremony along with other senior leaders like Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj

Advani pointed out that 2007 had been a good year for the BJP as it had managed to win in four of the six assembly elections held this year. "We have wrested Punjab, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh from the Congress. This signals the beginning of the BJP's comeback trail," he said.

Advani expressed hope that this will help change the political equation in India and 2008 will be a Parivartan Varsh.
