Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday accused the Centre of being solely responsible for the spurt in terror activities in the country, saying the militants sneak in due to lack of alertness on the border areas.

"The militants sneak into the country from borders, which lack vigil and alertness. The Centre is solely responsible for spurt in terrorist activities in the country," she said while addressing a rally in Ballia in support of Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Vinay Shankar Tiwari for the Ballia Lok Sabha bypolls on December 29.

Firing fresh salvoes at the Centre for fertiliser and power crisis in the state, she said she had yet not got any positive response from the prime minister on the state's demand for Rs 80,000 crore economic package.

Announcing that work on ambitious Ganga express highway from Ballia to Noida will start from next month, the chief minister said her government was committed to developing the state and would also allow private participation in this regard.

Alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress were conspiring to scrap provisions of reservation for scheduled caste and backward classes, Mayawati said she would provide reservation facility in the private sector too if BSP came to power at the Centre.

She also lashed out at the media saying it was involved in conspiracy against her government.

Taking potshots at Samajwadi Party candidate Neeraj Shekhar, Mayawati said she would have supported his candidature had he not joined SP and followed the ideals of his father Chandrashekhar.
