A major fire engulfed a few floors of Gopala Towers in West Delhi on Monday.

More than ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire department fought the blaze for over two hours before bringing it under control.

Hundreds of people were in their offices when the 11-storied building caught fire. The fire spread to other levels of the building, causing panic amongst its occupants.

While television channels reported that some people had died from burn injuries, both the police and the fire brigade have denied reports of any deaths.

"I have no information about any death in the fire," assistant commissioner of police Rajan Bhagat said.

The same building had caught fire a few years ago. On that occasion, Jagmohan, the then minister for urban development, had deployed a helicopter to carry out rescue operations, a move which ended up stoking the fire instead.
