The Gujarat police is likely to move local courts for permission to start investigations in connection with the non-cognisable complaints filed against Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani and senior Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela for alleged violation of the model code of conduct for election.

"As these are non-cognizable complaints, we will have to seek approval of the court before starting the investigations on them. We will soon consult higher officials and file a report in the respective courts," police officials said.

The Election Commission on Wednesday filed police complaints against Modi, Advani and Vaghela for 'violation' of the model code of conduct by addressing people just outside polling booths on December 16 after casting their votes in the second phase of polling in state assembly elections.

The EC also filed a similar complaint of non-cognisable nature against senior journalist Prabhu Chawla for telecasting the interview of Modi on Aaj Tak channel after the deadline for campaigning was over on December 14.
