Two senior Congress leaders of Assam's North Cachar Hill district, Dipendu Langthasa and NIrmalendu Langthasa, both sons of senior Congress leader G C Langthasa, on Thursday had a narrow escape when they came under attack from suspected Black Widow militants on their way to Guwahati from Haflong town.

Unidentified gunmen launched an attack on their convoy at Guruhari near Haflong town at around 11:30 am. The police said that one of the Police Service Officers of Dipendu Langthasa and a driver were injured in the attack.

The Langthasas have been under constant threat from militants. Black Widow militants gunned down the family's eldest son Purnendu Langthasa, the former chief executive member of the North Cachar Hill Autonomous Council, near Umrangshu in the hill district on June 4. One of his cousins was also killed in the attack.
