Top Hizbul Mujahideen commanders arrested

In a major success in its fight against militants in Jammu and Kashmir, the state police arrested two top militant commanders of the Hizbul Mujahideen from Srinagar and the north Kashmir Sopore town in separate raids.

Even though the police declined to confirm the arrests, sources said Gazi Misbah-ud-Din, the operational commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and Muzaffar Ahmad alias Tajamul, divisional commander of the outfit were arrested over the past two days.

A source said the two arrested militant commanders had been taken to an undisclosed location for questioning.

Gazi, the operational chief of the outfit, who, according to sources, was arrested from the Batmallo locality of the city, was the most wanted militant commander in the state. He is the outfit's first operational commander to be arrested.

Following these arrests, sources say police teams conducted raids at different places across the valley, whose results are yet to be revealed.
