Days after floods ravaged large parts of Bihar, the state government has sought Rs 3,220 crore as central assistance to cope with the heavy damages.
In a four-page memorandum, the state government sought Rs 3,220 crore from the centre for the massive damages caused to life and property across 19 of its 38 districts.
Bihar has sought 20 lakh tonnes of wheat and rice for distribution as relief among the hundreds of thousands of flood victims, mostly displaced and homeless, currently living on the embankments, roads, bridges, and rooftops.
In view of damage of crops in over 10.5 lakh hectares, it urged the Centre to help for the compensation. The standing crops of worth Rs 3,300 crore were damaged by the floods.
The memorandum was submitted
to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after Patil undertook an aerial survey of the flood affected areas on Tuesday. The government has urged Patil to send a central team to evaluate the damage caused by the floods immediately.
