Seeking youth support for development of Uttar Pradesh, Congress parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that 'lack' of good governance and a congenial atmosphere was forcing the natives to migrate to other states.

People of Uttar Pradesh were contributing towards the development of other states like Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan while their native state languished in 'neglect,' Rahul said, addressing an election meeting in Kamalganj.

"It is bad governance and lack of development of UP, which has forced people from here to move out and ironically help in the development of other states," he said.

Claiming that the successive non-Congress governments in the past 15 years have 'impeded' development of the state, the young Congress leader said by 'dividing' people on caste and religious lines, parties have 'exploited' the people for their political gains.

"The power situation has remained static during the past 15 years with no new power house being set up and similar is the condition of roads," he said, recalling the days when late Indira Gandhi, his grandmother, was at the helm and Uttar Pradesh was a leading state in the country.

He sought the help of the youth in his party's resolve to end the 'misgovernance' in Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier on his arrival in the district, Rahul accompanied by Satish Sharma and Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Salman Khursheed held a road show from Shamshabad to Kayamganj where Khursheed's wife is the Congress nominee.
