The two leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly summit and discussed current issues and political perspectives.
Mukherjee is leading the Indian delegation to the UNGA. Soon after his arrival in New York, he met with US President George W Bush.
He has also participated in discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and his Brazilian counterpart Celso Amorim.
