The Madras High Court, on Tuesday, rejected for the second time the bail application of People's Democratic Party leader Abdul Nazar Mahdani.

Mahdani was arrested for the 1998 serial bomb blasts in Coimbatore and held in prison for the past eight years.

Rejecting the bail plea, Justice M Thanikachalam said he did not find any reason to release Mahdani considering the graveness of the offence.

He ruled out releasing him at this stage on medical grounds 'when the cases are likely to be over within two or three months'.

The judge said according to reports submitted by the authorities, Mahdani was being checked daily and given constant medical attention, including Ayurvedic treatment.

Mahdani had sought bail on medical grounds and said in his petition that he was a diabetic and one of his legs had been amputated. He also wanted Ayurvedic treatment.

He was also seeking the bail on the plea that his detention was illegal and that the final displosal of his case was taking a long time. The High Court had rejected his first bail plea on March 17, 2005.
