Cashing in on their popularity, fireworks manufacturers have named crackers after Railway minister Lalu Prasad, his wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Patna's wholesale firecracker market is flooded with different varieties of crackers, which bear names of these politicians and display their photographs.
'Lalu-Rabri parachute', 'Rabri rockets' 'Nitish throwbombs' and 'Nitish flowerpots' have been found to be quite popular.
Apart from these popular cracker brands, sparkles named after Congress president Sonia Gandhi and bombs named after Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat were also found to be doing good business in the state.
"Popular names do help raising the sale of the items. The firecrackers named after these politicians and Bollywood actress catch the fancy of the customers," shopkeeper Rashid Mian of the old city, said.
Another shopkeeper, Mohammad Nadeem said items named after celebraties were raking in good business.
Fakruddin Mian, another shopkeeper said while 'Lalu-Rabri' crackers were immensely popular, 'the Nitish Kumar brand has come into the market for the first time and so it will take some time to gain popularity'.
